Stephen Stubbings

Graduate of Architecture

Qualifications

B.Architecture - University of Sydney
B.Science(Architecture) - University of Sydney

Stephen graduated with first class honours in 1980. Through his training and for four years subsequent to graduation he worked in the Government Architects Branch of the NSW Public Works Department, gaining experience in a wide range of building types and projects, including public health buildings, tertiary colleges, and schools. He spent twelve months in the Schools Building Research and Development Group investigating and implementing strategies for the improvement of the acoustic environment in schools. He was the Project Architect for the design stages of a number of new and remodeled school buildings, as well as being involved in contract documentation for both small and large public buildings.

Stephen has a special interest in church buildings, and has acted as a design consultant for several church congregations, seeking to offer creative solutions within the often limited budgets of these community groups. After leaving Public Works he took this particular direction a step further and underwent theological training. He has been an ordained Baptist minister for some years, and he has previously been active in operating, program directing, and counseling for support and welfare services. He is currently chaplain to one of the major Sydney Rugby League clubs. These areas of involvement have given him particular insights into people and their needs, which he then seeks to apply to any design project.

Commitment to involvement in his local community has led Stephen to be involved at a variety of levels with planning and development of community facilities. He has continuing experience in the management of a local Council community centre, and the operation of a locally based and government funded Youth Service. He has also been actively involved in Council / community consultations to plan the provision of future community facilities in a rapidly developing area, including overall placement, town centre proposals and a youth centre.

Along with the Aibee staff, Stephen is highly computer literate, having wide experience in CADD, graphic design and desktop publishing.
